Why I Do What I Do…
When dealing with chronic pain, trust and understanding between doctor and patient are essential. I believe it's important for you to know who I am—not just my credentials, but my values, my journey, and what drives my passion for helping people manage chronic pain. Here's my story.
Hello, I'm Dr. Caroline Racz, and I'm passionate about helping people reclaim their lives from chronic pain.
My path in medicine has been one of unexpected discoveries. I began as a surgeon in France, reconstructing people's faces from trauma or cancers—work that was both technically and emotionally challenging. Life then led me to Canada where I discovered family medicine and got interested in the world of chronic pain as it's a very frequent complaint of patients in family practice. I knew I would practice in this field after my rotation to help people deal with it.
I'm empowered by my background as a surgeon and full body dissection experience, which gave me deep anatomical knowledge that's incredibly helpful for understanding the body's function. My education in literature and science has also taught me to always reconsider things and question myself—an approach that serves both my patients and my continuous learning.
Today, I have the chance to practice pain medicine and serve as an Assistant Professor at Dalhousie University in the beautiful Halifax, Nova Scotia (Canada).
My Approach to Pain Management
I believe that effective pain management goes far beyond simply treating symptoms. Having walked alongside dozens of patients through their pain journeys, I've learned that true healing requires a holistic approach that addresses not just the physical aspects of pain, but also its emotional, social, and psychological dimensions.
My practice combines evidence-based medical treatments with complementary approaches including:
Interventional procedures
Comprehensive medication management
Lifestyle and wellness strategies
Just as importantly, I work with each patient to build a real, achievable plan to help them reach their goals. Sometimes this means helping them understand how chronic pain will impact their life and finding realistic goals that can restore quality of life and meaning to their daily experience.
Beyond the Clinic
I'm passionate about delivering education and information to empower and support as many patients around the world as possible. Through social media, self-published books, and this website, I work to share knowledge with anyone interested in taming chronic pain or learning more about it. My goal is to provide practical tools and strategies that you can use every day to manage your pain more effectively, reaching far beyond the walls of any single clinic.
Life Beyond Medicine
When I'm not in the clinic, you'll find me embracing simple pleasures with my family. We love hiking together, and I enjoy running to clear my mind. I'm always up for new challenges, whether that's nurturing my vegetable garden, experimenting with plants of all kinds, or trying out new recipes in the kitchen. Board games are a family favorite—there's something wonderful about unplugging and connecting over a good game.
Speaking of unplugging, we've chosen to live without television, using our screen time intentionally for movies when we want to relax together. We're a bilingual family, and I believe strongly that bilingualism is one of the best gifts we can give our brains—research shows it helps protect against dementia.
A Personal Note
Every person's pain experience is unique, and I understand that chronic pain affects not just your body, but your entire life—your relationships, your dreams, your daily joys. Whether you're dealing with persistent back pain, headaches, fibromyalgia, or any other condition, you deserve to be listened and find someone to work with you to develop a plan that fits your real life.
Pain doesn't have to define your story. You can find ways for you to reconnect with the simple pleasures and meaningful moments that make life rich.
Let's talk chronic pain, and more importantly, let's talk about reclaiming your life.
